Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) authorities have come up with paver block solution for roads damaged because of rainfall. The authorities took up the initiative after the advice of MAUD Minister KT Rama Rao to come up with a long-lasting solution to the damages caused to BT roads by water stagnation and inundation.

HMR MD NVS Reddy said that the restoration works in Metro Rail corridors are going on at a brisk pace. The paver block solution is effectively used in European cities and Mumbai, which experience torrential rains. After laying paver blocks in a small stretch at Khairatabad Metro station near Rajiv Gandhi statue, HMR has taken up the works at Peddamma temple on Road No.36, Jubilee Hills and Madhapur Metro station.
Mayor Bonthu Rammohan and Reddy inspected these works along with traffic commissioner Jitender on Tuesday.

Now in about 200m each on both sides of Peddamma temple and Madhapur Metro stations, HMR is completely removing the BT surface, DBM etc., upto a depth of about 10 inches and is preparing lean concrete bed of about four inches and stone dust layer of another four inches to lay the paver blocks over them. Kerb stones have been embedded near the central median and on the footpath side for tightly packing the paver blocks in interlocked condition.

The levels of the road are also being readjusted with proper camber (slope) towards footpath side so that rain and other water do not stagnate on the road. About six inches of camber is being maintained from the central median to the footpath side.

Existing storm water and sewer manholes are also being strengthened. Appreciating the good quality and methodical work being done by HMRL, the Mayor said that GHMC has sanctioned new storm water drains and footpath works beyond the paver block portion and that it will start these works after HMRL completes works on this road.

In addition, officials inspected the Metro station works at Jubilee Checkpost, Peddama temple and Madhapur and instructed L&TMRHL to expedite the stations works. They have instructed L&TMRHL, HMR and Traffic Police to work in close coordination so as to facilitate proper traffic movement in this difficult stretch. Periodic traffic diversions would be notified for certain critical works involving public safety etc.
