Bhadradri Kothagudem: The first Collector of Bhadradri Kothaugudem district, Rajiv Gandhi Hanmanthu talking to The Hans India on Thursday stated that he would strive to develop the newly formed district keeping in view the objective of the TRS government to achieve Bangaru Telangana. Excerpts:

The Hans India: Congratulations for becoming the first District Collector. Do you think that your earlier experience as ITDA Project Officer at Bhadrachalam would help you to succeed in your efforts to develop the district?

The Collector: Certainly. The experience while discharging duties as the Project Officer of ITDA helped me to understand the problems faced by the Girijans of the district. Several programmes have been formulated under the ITDA to solve the problems that the Girijans were facing in the agency areas. The foremost objective is to provide education and medical facilities for all in the district.

THI: The newly formed district is sure to face umpteen problems. It appears that there is no clarity over the staff and offices in the district. What are the remedial measures that you propose to undertake for carrying out the administration smoothly?

The Collector: The district administration has been going on at smooth pace from day one. The heads of all departments joined in the duty on the first day. Review meetings have been conducted and the officials were instructed to prepare reports on the smooth functioning of various departments. The offices to the remaining departments would be provided in a couple of days. I am sure that there would be no difficulties for the people.

THI: There are plenty of natural resources in Bhadradri Kothagudem district for industrial development. What action you contemplate to provide employment opportunities to the youth in the district?

The Collector: There are already several leading industries like Kothagudem Thermal Power Station, Singareni Collieries, Heavy Water Plant and others. Several new industries would come up due to the formation of a small district. Efforts would be made to establish more industries by utilising the abundant natural resources available in the district. The government would organise job melas to provide employment to the youth.

THI: Will you ensure transparent administration to the people of the newly formed district?

The Collector: We are devising plans to implement schemes introduced by the State government transparently to prevent corruption. There would be a separate grievance cell at the Collectorate to receive complaints and resolve them immediately.

THI: What message you are giving to the district people as the new Collector?

The Collector: I would make myself available round the clock to the people to find solutions to their problems. People could contact me directly at any time to bring their problems to the notice of the district officials concerned. With the cooperation of the district administration, people’s representatives and people of all sections, efforts would be made to provide transparent administration to the people avoiding the middlemen.
