The city’s first pink ribbon walk was held on a grand note to bring awareness on breast cancer among the people of the city. The walk was organised by Ushalakshmi Breast Cancer Foundation (UBF) in collaboration with Andhra Hospitals and State Bank of India. Tollywood
Actor Sumanth and the city Police Commissioner Gowtham Sawang flagged off the walk at Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium on Sunday.

The UBF was successful in organising the Pink Ribbon Campaign for the last nine years in Hyderabad and other metropolitan cities. To
mark the International Breast Cancer Awareness month, the UBF organises various programmes in the month of October in many cities
and from now on Vijayawada is included in the list aswell.

Speaking at the event, the CEO and Director of UBF, Dr P Raghu Ram said that the city is going through a vibrant makeover and to
enhance that every citizen must take an awareness session on breast cancer. He also said that on the record 1.5 lakh cases are detected
every year in the country and nearly 70,000 persons succumb to the disease. He further advised the women youth to take an awareness
session for the early detection of cancer which could be completely curable.

In this awareness programme, the city police commissioner Gautham Sawang said that the department is focused to bring awareness
over breast cancer by coming up with events like the Pink Ribbon Walk and as such. He further said that the students of various colleges
and other educational institutions to organise such awareness camps and educate the public.

The Tollywood Actor, Sumanth expressed his joy for taking part in the event. The film star said that the word cancer feared him a lot
while in his teen. With the development of technology people can easily overcome and fight cancer. The students of various colleges,
nursing staff and many other officials took part in the walk.
