​Warangal Urban: The GWMC officials have on Thursday conducted raids on shops and vendors using banned plastic carry bags and imposed penalties for violating the rules.

The raids were conducted on 21 shops, tiffin centres and road side vendors at Hunter Road, Postal Colony and Julaiwada localities in the city. Sanitary inspector M. Sambaiah who led a team in conducting the raids said they collected fines amounting to Rs. 4900 from the erring traders.

He said if these shops were found using plastic covers again the fines would be increased with each offense and finally the owner would be jailed.

In charge municipal commissioner Shahid Masood asked citizens to cooperate with the corporation making the free from banned plastic material.

He said plastic covers less than 51 microns cause harm to the environment and its use should be stopped.
