Officials of Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) are all set to move into bigger and swankier premises. Constructed with ‘green building concept’ and natural ventilation the new building would bring down electricity consumption by 33 per cent. The cost of the project is Rs 10 crore.

The new office is located at Police Lines near Begumpet. The premises are spread across 3,547 square yards and have ground plus four floors, which can accommodate close to 250 employees.

“Lawns are filled with decorative and ornamental plants, which will help keeping surroundings cool. At a time 50 cars can be parked in the building,” said an official.

“A sky-walk connecting the new Metro Rail Bhavan and Metro station is also coming up soon,” the official added.

HMR authorities are planning to shift into the new premises next month. While a majority has begun work there, the official inauguration will be done soon.

According to HMR officials, when the Metro Rail work was started there were 40 to 50 personnel working but today, the staff number has reached to over 200.

“As such the staff was operating from two buildings opposite to the AG office near RBI office,” said an official. Officials said that the existing building would be handed over to the GHMC.
