Warangal: Future of the Distance Education Centre (DEC) of Kakatiya University, which caters to the needs of students from both the Telugu states and has a long history, has become questionable as the officials are yet to conduct the admission test although this academic year is about to conclude.

The admission tests in KU are conducted twice in a year. There is confusion among students whether the admissions in distance education have been scrapped or the officials have stopped them. Due to this many students were being deprived of the chance to pursue studies.

The DEC, set up three decades ago, has been running 53 degree and PG courses for the benefit of 50,000 students. Although the admissions test for degree students for the 2016-17 academic year should be held in July, the university officials are hesitating to issue the notification.

This has caused severe anxiety among students, who are unsure whether the test would be held at all. A student, Vangala Sudhakar, while speaking to The Hans India, said students are eagerly waiting for the entrance exam.

They have appealed to the higher officials to exert pressure on the UGC to persuade the varsity to issue the notification. The Distance Education Bureau of Kakatiya University has not been recognised.

Hence, there is uncertainty about the conduct of the entrance test for the degree and PG courses. The varsity officials were said to be dilly-dallying on issuing the notification.

KU Employees’ Union leader Dr Gotte Bhaskar interacting with THI, alleged that because of the indifferent attitude of the university officials, distance education was being neglected. However, officials like Dr Dinesh Kumar, DEC director were confident of receiving the recognition.
