Warangal Urban: Infuriated at detaining the AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi at a New Delhi police station on Wednesday, the district Congress workers have burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

A group of activists, led by the party district president N Rajender Reddy, have staged a dharna at Congress Bhavan in Hanamkonda on Wednesday and shouted slogans against PM Modi and BJP government at the Centre.

Speaking to press persons, the Congress leader Rajender Reddy complained that the NDA government led by BJP at the Centre has been suppressing democratic rights of the Opposition leaders.

He faulted the act of detaining Rahul Gandhi at the police station for trying to meet the family members of a deceased ex-serviceman Subedar Ram Kishan Grewal, who allegedly committed suicide over the delay in implementation of One Rank One Pension (OROP).

The city Congress working president Rajanala Srihari also condemned the act of detaining the AICC leader and said it was against the democratic rules.

What message does the BJP government intends to give by detaining a national leader like Rahul Gandhi in a police station, he sought to know.

City Congress president K Srinivas Rao, TPCC general secretary N Srinivas, official spokes person Md Ankus, NSUI Kakatiya University wing president A Karthik and others were present.
