​Karimnagar: The spreading of dengue could be prevented by keeping the surroundings clean and removing the stored water regularly along with keeping the stagnant water areas dry, District Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed said.

Speaking with the media persons at the Collectorate conference hall here on Wednesday, the Collector said that dengue fever was spreading at an alarming rate in the district.

Till date about 109 dengue cases have been registered in the united district. In Karimnagar district alone, nearly 58 cases were registered, more in areas like Hussainpura and Karkanagadda.

He observed that the main reason for the spreading of this disease was unhygienic surroundings. The people must not store water for longer period of time.

Since the stored water was the best place for the larva to grow into adult mosquito. The people in the city and in surrounding villages must conduct a ‘dry day’ programme on every Friday, he suggested.

The Municipal workers have conducted a special drive to maintain surroundings clean and hygiene in the city along with creating awareness among the public through pamphlets and posters.

The Collector ordered the municipal workers to spray DDT or kerosene to prevent the growth of larva in vacant stagnated areas.

There was no need to worry about dengue fever. The patients suffering with dengue must take rest and must consume fruit juices along with Paracetamol tablets, suggested the collector.

The District Health Officer A V Rajesham, Superintendent of District Government Hospital Suhasini and City Municipal Commissioner Venkatesham were present along with others.
