Warangal Urban: Revolutionary Democratic Front (RDF) president P Varavara Rao has extended support to the Maoists’ bandh called on Thursday protesting against Malkangiri encounter, in which 31 persons, including 18 naxals, were killed.

Speaking to the press persons along with the leaders of Telangana Democratic Front (TDF) in Hanamkonda on Wednesday, the RDF leader appealed the public to observe bandh fully and make it a success.

Varavara Rao reiterated his demand to produce the CPI (Maoist) central committee member Akkiraju Haragopal alias Ramakrishna (RK) before the court unharmed along with nine tribals accompanying him.

He wanted the public in Telugu states and those upholding the democratic rights to come forward to stage protests putting pressure on Andhra Pradesh government to produce RK and others before the court.

The TDF members Prof Katyayani Vidmahe, B Durga Prasad, B Ramesh, Rama Swamy, N Kumaraswamy, Md Basith, Manda Sanjiv, Bhadavath Raju, Linga Reddy and others have also called upon the public to take to the streets in connection with the demand to produce RK before the court.

They informed that all the member organisations of the TDF would take active part in the agitations. The TDF leaders alleged that RK, who was injured in the encounter, and his associates were being subjected to torture by AP police.

The AP government was trying to chase away Maoists from the agency areas of the State as they were opposing bauxite mining in the forests.

The leaders have demanded the State and Central forces to immediately stop their combing operations in the forests on Andhra Pradesh-Odisha borders.

Meanwhile, the armed police have launched intensive combing and search in the agency area spread in villages and forests of Jayashanker Bhupalpalli district to prevent any untoward incidents.

Since early hours of Wednesday, the police have started checking vehicles from neighbouring Chhattisgarh State into the district.
