Nalgonda: The Low Level Canal of Alimineti Madhava Reddy Srisailam Left Bank Canal Project (SLBC), which was completed with Rs 297.67 crore, would be launched within a week.

The Low Level Canal (or flood flow canal), whose length is 85.30 km, will provide irrigation facility to 80,000 acres ayacut under the lift irrigation scheme by drawing water from the foreshores of Nagarjunasagar reservoir.

The construction of the canal was started in the year 1993 and targeted to complete in 2009 to provide irrigation facility to six mandals of Nalgonda district. However, woks were delayed due to various reasons.

Recently, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has taken the initiative and sanctioned Rs 300 crore that lead to completion of the canal. Water from the canal could be drawn by gravity during flood season and through lift during the non-flood season with three pumps of 4 MW capacity.

The canal runs at the elevation +177.7 m to irrigate the ayacut of 80,000 acres in Peddavoora, Anumula, Nidmanoor, Tripuraram, Madgulapally and Vemulapally mandals in the district through 12 distributaries and to fill 200 minor irrigation tanks en-route in a total length of canal 85.30 km. The canal ends at Musi at Palair hamlet of Bommakal gram panchayat in Vemulapally mandal.

According to the officials of AMRP SLBC, pumping station was also got ready and trial run was also completed. The canal is likely to be launched in a week by Minister for Irrigation T Harish Rao.
