John Thomas took charge as Chief Electrical Engineer, South Central Railway. Before taking over the charge of new assignment, he served as Chief Safety Officer, Southern Railway. He belongs to the 1982 batch of Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers.

Thomas is an Electrical Engineer and joined the Indian Railways as Assistant Electrical Engineer in Southern Railway.
He continued to work in capacities like Divisional Electrical Engineer, Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer, Deputy Chief Electrical Engineer, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Chennai, Chief Electrical Loco Engineer, Chief Projects Manager and Railway Electrification at Chennai.
During his career spanning over 32 years, he had undergone training programmes in all fields of Electrical Department.
