Officials move to empty water around KGBV

Mahabubabad: The district educational officials have launched works to clear the water pond that is surrounding Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) at Mahabubabad.

It may be noted that the KGBV located at Dharmanna Colony at the district headquarters has been swamped by a vast pool of water for the past couple of months.

Backwaters of Krishnaswamy Kunta, situated on the backside of the school and drainage water from surrounding areas created the pond.

The pond made it difficult for the students, staff and others to reach the school premises and they are compelled to tread through knee deep waters to reach the school building and posed health threat as it become breeding ground for mosquitoes.

The Hans India has published a special story in its November 2 edition on the plight of the students. Responding over the news story, the in-charge District Educational Officer Ch Srinivasa Chary has embarked upon the task of clearing the water stagnation.

The work of depositing soil, transported in tractors, on the school premises allowing the water to move out began on Sunday. The entire school premises will be filled up with soil increasing the ground level so that water could not enter the school in future, the official said.

The School Principal, B Bhavani has informed that nearly 30 per cent work was completed by Monday. She thanked The Hans India for publishing the story, highlighting the school problem and expressed pleasure over the due response from the concerned officials to address the issue.

The local AISF and CPI leaders, who reacted over the news story, have staged protest on November 2, demanding immediate action by the officials to address the problem.

CPI leader B Ajay Sarathi has appreciated The Hans India for its concern towards the students’ problem and helping to resolve the issue.
