Hyderabad: Model United Nations event held at the Kuntloor campus of Narayana IAS Academy, Hayatnagar, the students doing their Bachelor of Arts turned to diplomats and delegates of UN Member countries. United Nations General Assembly was the opening session of this three day simulation event.

Secretary General for the event, M V Akhil, told in his address to the delegates about the change that can be brought when all the countries unite towards a better world.

He also urged the member countries to look into the issues of women empowerment and gender orientation and identity and be empathetic towards this community.

Though the main topic of the session was Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the discussion among this bunch of world delegates ranged from Gender Equality-Women empowerment and human trafficking, child labour, malnutrition and things very much needed to be discussed.

Moderating the session, Sandeep Reddy, Chair of UNGA urged the world countries or the 43 countries to be particular, to fulfill the aspirations of the world citizens by concentrating on complete success of the 8 MDGs.

The controversial issue of legalising LGBT community was discussed and debated at this Model platform of the world’s biggest forum.

The delegate of Russia, Sri Charan, a student of B.A-II, was against the very existence of the third gender when the delegate of Israel, Shareeq spoke in affirmation about LGBT rights and the delegate of Germany, Manoj spoke about how they wanted to turn Germany into a Rainbow destination.

The afternoon session had Puneeth Kothapa, the Executive Director & CEO of the Narayana Group of Educational Institutions as the chief guest.

The CEO spoke about the importance of having the trait of empathy and being able to view issues from different perspectives. This skill is a must for any leader and civil servants importantly, he opined.

He urged the promising bureaucrats to develop this idea of being a world citizen and to also see what the world needs apart from what the interests of one’s own country are.

“The European countries have marketed the culture they had so well that barely any European chooses Taj Mahal for Eiffel Tower. And it is the need of the hour to showcase what India’s got to the world…,” Puneeth concluded.

The boiling issue to India, the Uri attacks and the frequent Pakistani interventions into the sovereignty of India was raised by the delegate of India, Varshith, and it lead to a long discussion in the session as the delegate of China, Prakash, vehemently supported the Pakistani Delegate.

Clad in a Muslim-like-dress with a Taqiyah on head, Saketh B, the delegate representing Pakistan did a good job defending his country with his arguments when delegates of most nations tried cornering it. The same was the scenario of the delegate of North Korea, Mohan. But he stood strong all through the session.

The whole day was a wonderful experience to an eager and attentive audience that included guests, professors, lecturers, journalists, students ranging from 16 to 60 years of age.

The chief coordinator for the event and the Principal, Giridhar said he only wanted his students to make a big but positive impact on the society.
