Kamareddy: Thousands of people forming serpentine queues were seen waiting at 14 branches of various banks and post offices in the town on Thursday for exchanging their banned Rs.500/Rs.1,000 currency notes.

They were forced to approach banks and post offices as nobody was accepting the banned notes. Police personnel were helping bank staff in regulating crowds and ensuring order.

Each bank extended the facility of offering Rs.4,000 to each customer after producing ID proof. However, speaking to The Hans India, customers said that that the amount of Rs 4,000 was insufficient to meet their expenses.

Moreover, many of them had to perform marriages during this season and they were running short of money and they were finding it difficult to mobilise the cash. Women and the aged had a harrowing time at the banks.
