Warangal/Bhupalpalli: The Central government lacked proper planning to address the issues rising out of demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes, opined several city Congress leaders.

Large numbers of Congress workers and leaders have staged a dharna at Congress Bhavan in Hanamkonda on Monday.

They burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a mark of protest against the Centre’s failure in addressing the plight of common people.

The city Congress president K Srinivasa Rao, senior leader N Srinivas and others took part in the protest. Speaking on the occasion, they said the Congress was not against curbing black money.

But the way the Centre has withdrawn the legal tender character of the currency in question was not proper. The Centre’s decision has been causing untold miseries to the common man.

Yet the government has failed to come out with remedial measures. The people were suffering to procure the commodities required for their day-to-day needs, they added.

A similar protest was held at Jayashanker Bhupalpalli district headquarters where Congress party senior leader G V Ramana Reddy, D Sridhar Babu joined the party workers and staged rasta-roko. The party workers burnt an effigy of PM Modi.

Those at the helm in the BJP-led NDA government have not applied their mind prior to taking the decision of demonetising the currency.

As a result the poorer sections and middle class families were affected a lot, the leaders complained.
