Warangal: The CPM urban district secretary S Vasudeva Reddy demanded the government setting up of additional counters to deal with the rush of customers in exchanging and depositing demonetised currency of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000.

The Central government has failed to make proper arrangements for the convenience of people prior to withdraw the currency. As a result poorer sections, middle class families and traders have been suffering a lot, he complained.

Protesting the Centres’ failure to address public trouble, the CPM staged protests at banks and post offices in the city on Tuesday. Vasudeva Reddy led a protest held at Hanamkonda head post office on the day.

Speaking on the occasion, he alleged that the BJP leaders and corporate houses close to the government have made prior arrangements to exchange money as the information on withdrawal of currency was leaked to them.

The Centre should have brought back the black money stashed in foreign banks and curbed flow of black money in real estate and bullion trade. In the name of curtailing black money, the government was troubling the common public, he criticised.

Vasudeva Reddy demanded the government to extend the time limit to exchange the currency and lift the limitation imposed on cash transactions.

Immediate steps to set up additional counters at banks and post offices along with mobile ATMs should be taken.

The CPM leaders T Uppalaiah, Ragula Ramesh, G Venkat, Mahabub Pasha, G Prabhakar Reddy, K Upender and others took part in the protests.
