City-based theatre group Shudrka made waves at the national level after their performance at the 10th Delhi International Arts Fetival (DIAF) recently.

The group enacted the play titled ‘Kissa Andher Nagri Ka’, which was an adaptation of Bharatendu Harishchandra’s famous story ‘Andher Nagri Choupat Raja’.

The story was about a disciple who despite many warnings of his teacher ventures into a dark town ruled by a foolish ruler where he discovers that the inhabitants are equally foolish.

An incident follows a bizarre blame game which almost costs the disciple his life.

Team Shudrka performed at the Civil Services Officers Insititute, Delhi and the director, Swapan Mondal was bold with live music arrangements.

The performed enacted iconic scenes with humour and told the tale that uncovers the absurdities of India’s social and political systems.

The team’s next national performance is Mahasweta Devi’s ‘Aajir’ at Shantipur Rangapit Natya Mela in West Bengal on December 22.
