The calendar has officially turned to winter and many parts of our country have already got their first frost this weekend. As the seasons change, so do our activities and especially our home needs.

Not only it’s a good time to do some seasonal maintenance to keep your home running smoothly, but it is also that time of the year when you enjoy being indoors.

Winters is all about indulging in cozy textures and warms colours and pampering yourself with seasonal treats. Here are some of the best tips you need to “Get your home winter ready!”

Right bedding: The most important element in making your home ready for winter is the bed. Since winter is considered to be the ideal weather for a snooze, why not transform your bed with rich and warm colours?

Just like you don a zillion jackets and woollens to keep yourself warm in winters, how about adding layers to your very own bed? Indulge in a sensational combination of feel good texture in fabric such as velvet, linen and wool for the much required warmth.

Don’t hesitate to spike up the style quotient by adding bright coloured throw and sham pillows. Invest in some good quality bed sheets that can control temperature and bring in warmth, turning your bedroom into a cozy den in harsh winters.

Add warmth to your floor: Well, you don’t want to start your mornings by stepping onto a cold floor. A fluffy area rug in the living room or bedroom will instantly add warmth and texture underfoot.

If your bedroom floor still has the summer cotton rug, it’s high time you replace it with some wool/heavy duty carpet.

Just make sure that your new carpet matches the paint, curtains, room layout, furniture etc. before you make your winter shopping!

Window drapes: Window fashions will help you manipulate the natural light entering your home. They also allow you to block the cold winter scene outside when the leaves have left trees barren, clawing at your home exterior. Thick drapes and curtains dipped in dark rich hues will detract from theouter chill.

Use appropriate lightings: Just because the daylight fades away early during winters it doesn’t mean it’s time to hibernate.

You need a lighting scheme to keep your home feeling warm, bright, and cheerful. Add table and floor lamps throughout your home, and swap out low-wattage bulbs with brighter, energy-efficient ones. Dimmers are great in the evening hours to transition to bedtime when you’re ready.

Infuse color therapy: This winter, update your wall colour schemes to embrace the deeper tones or a medley of raspberry, mulberry and blackcurrant shades for a chic and cosy scheme.

Think dark, elegant colours alongside warm lighting and reflective surfaces. If you have dark colour furniture, you can warm up your wall with a palette of orange, green and yellows.

You can also let your imagination go wild with whimsical wallpaper which will add more character to your otherwise boring wall.

Last but not the least, look no further than nature for décor ideas.Abouquet of flowers placed by the bedside or dining area instantly transforms the room be it living or bedroom.

Keep in mind that you don’t go overboard with the changes; be mindful of incorporating seasonal items and the fact that it should fit-in seamlessly with the décor or overall theme of your home.

Always remember, your home is a reflection of your taste and style, so do what makes you happy and feel good!
