Adventure enthusiasts of the city received firsthand training in certification for the wild as part of the ‘Wilderness First Aid’ (WAD) course held at Oakridge International School in Gachibowli recently.

The course, comprised of a 16-hour module and 4-hour CPR class was scenario-based learning and included training in patient assessment and extended care, injury/illness identification and management, and emergency response procedures and evacuation.

The course also focused on making improvisations in remote environments including lifting and evacuation techniques in the wilderness areas to reach out to the nearest medical care facility.

It was facilitated by instructors Shantanu Pandit and Akshay Shah.

Speaking at the event, Diyanat Ali, Founder, CELOL said, “Outdoor and adventure are inherently risky and there have been many injuries leading to loss of limb or life in the past.

Most lives can be saved if immediate first aid and evacuation is done.

The outdoor and adventure community needs to make sure that there is at least one Wilderness First Aider with a kit on all adventure trips to take care of any trauma or illness.”
