The Christmas fervour has already started and to ring in the festive cheer for Hyderabadis, Goethe-Zentrum organised a ‘Christmas Market’ at its premises on Sunday.

The market was buzzing with patrons and Goethe-Zentrum installed more than 20 stalls, which had all the items like home decorations, clothes, baked goodies among others.

To make the festive shopping merrier, a live band was performing carols at the venue and people were seen enjoying the canticles along with the shopping.

A Christmas market, also known as Christkindlemarkt and Weihnachtsmarkt, is a street market associated with the beginning of Christmas celebrations.

There is a Christmas market in many towns in Germany and Austria, ushering the beginning of the Advent.

Indira, Programme Coordinator, Goethe-Zentrum, Hyderabad, informed that the markets in Germany during Christmas time sell items like Glue Wine and various gifts related to Christmas festivities.

And Goethe-Zentrum organised this market with the same concept here, to replicate the tradition in Hyderabad.

“This is the only Christmas Bazaar happening this year in Hyderabad.

Our main objective is to create a festive atmosphere,” she shared.

To propagate the local art form and the help the weavers; there were a few stalls that had Pochampally handlooms too.

“We came here to showcase the famous Pochampally handlooms and we got a good response here.

These kinds of markets encourage the rural arts and helps the artisans,” said Manasa, who was showcasing Pochampally handlooms at the market.
