The Telangana University has created history by becoming the first University to get NAAC accreditation after the formation of the Telangana State. Nizamabad: It has been nearly a year since the Telangana University (TU) got NAAC accreditation but it has not received even a single pie from the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyaan. (RUSA). Earlier, funds were not released to the Telangana University for nine years as it failed to get NAC accreditation but even now, things have not changed.
The Telangana University has created history by becoming the first University to get NAAC accreditation after the formation of the Telangana State. Last year, on October 30, the then Vice-chancellor of TU Parthasaradhi and Registrar R Limbadri sent draft proposals worth Rs 50 crore to the State government and this year after getting accreditation, they again sent proposals for Rs 20 crore for RUSA funds.
The State government, in turn, sent proposals to the Union Ministry for Human Resources Development but to no avail. But Rs 1 lakh were released for conducting a RUSA seminar but these funds did not reach the university.Earlier, Prof Yadagiri was the coordinator between RUSA and the University but now there is no coordinator. However, speaking to The Hans India, some of the Professors from the University said that if the local MPs and MLAs exert pressure on the Union HRD Ministry, there was a possibility that RUSA funds might be released.
Although Prof Sambaiah and Prof Jayaprakash Rao were appointed as the Vice-chancellor and Registrar respectively five months ago, it is not known as to what decision they took to get the funds released. The question uppermost in everybody’s mind is whether the funds would be released at all. Some of the faculty members of the University are sore that not enough lobbying was done to secure RUSA funds.
They cite the example of Rs 20 crore funds from RUSA released for the Yogi Vemana University at Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh due to intense lobbying by the political leaders and officials. They said that it was highly unfortunate that the TU could not secure funds.
They want the two MPs and nine MLAs from Kamareddy and Nizamabad to take up the issue with the Union HRD Ministry in right earnest.
