Nalgonda: District SP Prakash Reddy stated that the crime rate has come down in the district in 2016 compared to previous year.On Wednesday, he conducted a press meet and released crime report of the year, 2016 of the district. Speaking to the media on this occasion, the SP said crimes such as dacoiteis, murders, culpable homicides and rapes considerably came down in the current year in the district

Similarly, crimes against women were reduced to 555 in 2016 from 625 in last year. Grave crimes too came down to 139 in 2016 against 162 in the year 2015. In grave crimes, murders were reduced to 38 in 2016 from 46 in the last year while rape cases decreased from 48 to 47. Dowry deaths were lessened to five in the current year from 16 in the last year, however robberies were increased to 10 in current year from six in the last year.

The property offences were also reduced to 365 in the current year from 449 in the last year. The recovery in the property offences was also witnessed improvement as Rs 2,40,04,830 was recovered as against the value of property lost of Rs 3,59,96,462, which was reported in this year, which was almost 75 per cent. Explaining about the major achievements of the district police, he pointed out that Nalgonda police have busted international kidney racket, which has rocked the entire country and arrested 15 members of the racket. The investigation of the case was at final stage, he maintained.

“SHE Teams were giving good results in preventing harassment against girl students and women. In 2016, about seven cases were registered and counseling was conducted to 334 eve teasers,” he added.The district police has acted firm on preventing illegal sand transportation, he informed that 626 cases have been booked under Section 376 IPC of Section 3 of PDPP Act and 944 vehicles (lorries and tractors) were seized in the cases. Stating that special focus was laid on female foeticide, infanticide and sale of girl child, he said pointed out an awareness programme “Amma Nannu Ammake” was organised at Devarakonda in the district under Jana Mirthri programme. The cases registered on foeticide, infanticide and sale of girl children also come down to three in this year from six in the last year.

Registration of FIRs was increased to 3.7 per cent due to bindingovers, the rate of crime has decreased in this year. In all, 4,599 cases were registered at the police stations in the district this year as against 4,431 cases in the year 2015, he pointed out.He made it clear that there was no Naxalite movement reported in the district this year. But, three Maoist sympathisers were bindedover and two persons who were supplying weapons to the banned outfit were detained, he asserted.CCTV cameras had played a key role in preventing crime and tracing the criminals, he informed, adding that 500 CCTV cameras were installed at different towns across the district this year and another 500 would be installed in the next year.
