City-based Global Hospitals announced the successful performance of two micro vascular surgeries that have helped the patients recover to a normal life.

Addressing the media, Dr N Jithendran, Consultant – Cosmetic, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Global Hospitals, LB Nagar, said, “Ananth Reddy, 51, came to us requesting for salvage of his injured lower limb when he was told to accept a below knee amputation.

As part of the procedure we debrided the wound, fixed the fractured tibia, external fixator and then performed plastic surgery, where initially negative pressure wound therapy was given followed by a micro vascular free flap coverage to cover the open bones, prevent infection and facilitate a bony union.”

“In a later planned admission he underwent open reduction and internal fixation along with bone grafting, which allowed complete bony union without any infection.

The patient is now happy for he is now able to stand on his feet”, added Dr Jithendran.

In another case, 35-year-old Prashanth Reddy was injured in a road traffic accident. “During initial surgery, he underwent surgical debridement. He later underwent a relook surgical debridement followed by negative pressure wound therapy for the left knee joint injury.

This was followed by micro vascular free tissue transfer for coverage of the left knee joint. A small area on the lateral aspect of the free flap was deliberately left open which was then sutured.

With the timely medical intervention now both the patients have been able to get back to normal life,” said the doctor.
