As part of Hyderabad Youth Association’s (HYA) efforts towards ‘Goal 3 – Gender Equality’, ‘Team Empower’ conducted a self-defence workshop at Ideal Junior College in Dilsukhnagar recently in which about 700 girls participated.

“The right to self defence can translate as the right to use force in case of harm in many courts of law with varying implications.

We, as members of HYA, believe that every girl should be confident enough to defend herself in times of danger,” said HYA member.

Instructors Nani, Naresh and Naveen from Taika martial arts academy, Kukatpally conducted the training with the assistance from faculty member Sunitha and Director of Ideal Group of Institutions Nagendra Prasad.

The sessions included demonstration of punches and blocks along with an
explanation of biological weak points of both men and women.

“The girls showed enthusiasm to learn the techniques and a few of them
volunteered to experiment the moves.

They were motivated and confident
by the end of the session,” said the HYA leader.
