Hanamkonda: The CPM district unit leaders and workers have taken a strong opposition to the Land Acquisition Bill 2016 passed by the State government.Expressing their disapproval, large number of workers from the party staged a protest and burned the effigy of KCR government at BR Ambedkar Centre in Hanamkonda on Thursday. The party State Executive Member B Venkat, Urban and Rural District Secretaries S Vasudeva Reddy and M Chukkaiah led the protest.

Speaking on the occasion Venkat said that instead of implementing the Land Acquisition Act 2013, as per the provisions of Constitutional Article 254, the State government has amended the Land Acquisition Bill 2016 to suit its needs and to serve the interests of the rich.

The government was planning to acquire large extent of land to give it away to the corporate houses in the pretext of development. The government’s move has hurt the interests of dalits, farmers, agricultural labours, and those dependent on caste based vocations, he alleged.

He faulted the caustic remarks made against CPM and other opposition parties by CM K Chandrashekar Rao in the State assembly. It was very inappropriate on the part of CM to make such comments and his talk degrades the stature of his post.

The CPM and other political parties have supported people who were displaced by Mallannasagar project. They were only fighting to protect the interests of poor farmers and marginalised sections of society while the government wants to serve capitalists, Venkat said.

Vasudeva Reddy and Chukkaiah demanded the government to withdraw the Land Acquisition Bill 2016 and implement Land Acquisition Act 2013 which was being enforced across the nation. Otherwise the public would teach TRS government a lesson at right time, the party leaders cautioned. The party leaders G Prabhakar Reddy, Ch Rangaiah, T Uppalaiah, S Babu, Aroori Kumar and others were present.
