The first phase of placement session has completed on 26 December at Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IIT-H). Over 40 per cent of graduates and undergraduates are placed in about 140 companies.

IIT-H placement cell revealed that market absorption of students has seen a rise compared to previous year despite boom in automation industry and US elections.

There were around 130 companies last year but this year we witnessed more than 140 companies with more intake of students and the campus is expecting a good percentage of students being placed by end of the academic year. Top recruiters as of now are Bank of America, Entransys, Virtusa, Polaris, Qualcomm, Eaton, Honeywell etc.

IIT-H, to make sure that all its graduates are placed has started many training and certificate based programmes that will help them in getting a job easily. Various student clubs from the institute along with the professors have actively participated in training the graduates.

“It is a clear picture of improvement when compared to last year placements. With increase in the student’s registrations with almost 60 more students for campus placements when compared to the figures of last year, there is also increasing in the company’s enrollments” states Prof Venkatesham, Placement Officer.

Talking further about the highest salary offered for a student Prof Venkatesham says, “As of now 38 lakh per annum and 30 lakh per annum was offered by international and domestic firms respectively. Even the salary package has increased compared to last year he states.

When asked about any new strategies being implemented during the placement season he said, “There is a consortium of all IITs’ placement cell (AIPC) and more or less all would have a similar strategy in approaching campus recruiters”.

Offers from start-up companies were sparser this year in most of the IIT’s, on asking Prof Venkatesham to comment regarding it, he replied,

“It is a complete business decision of individual organisations and market driven. So, we may not in a position to comment about their participation. We expect a better count in the next phase atleast.”

“Also there are less number of companies participated in the field of data analytics. Companies from the core (technical)/IT streams have recruited in large numbers this year.

Participation from PSUs has increased this year and there is a hike noted in number of offers made by them” he added.
