The teams will help in preventing crimes in villages

Suryapet: District Superintendent of Police Parimala Nutan stated that they have decided to set up Village Protection Teams in New Year with the involvement of policemen, youth and people to prevent crimes in villages.Presenting the details of the yearly crime report to media on Friday, the Superintendent of Police said district police would set up Village Protection Teams with a slogan of “Safe Village-Safe Colony-Safe Town”.

The Superintendent of Police further informed that training was being provided to the women police, who were working in SHE and Snehitha Teams, by a famous Karate institute National Karate and Judo Academy.The Superintendent of Police said the crime cases against women were also brought down to 220 this year from 239 in the year 2015. Cordon and Search operations were being conducted in the towns to identify the suspicious and anti-social elements, the SP added.

So far, 350 Closed Circuit Camera Television cameras have been installed at different places in the district. The district police would take up measures for installing another 500 CCTV cameras in the district. Under “Safe Town Programme”, 85 CCTV cameras were installed in Kodad town alone.Meanwhile, SHE teams have registered 29 cases of eve teasing and counselled more than200 youth.

Though road safety measures were taken up by the district police including Accident Resolution Teams, the number of road accidents was increased to 627 this year from 604 in the corresponding year.The crime rate was deceased by 1.5 per cent in the district in the year 2016 compared to 2015. The number of grave crimes has also come down to 91 this year from 94 in 2015. But, there was slight increase in murders and culpable homicides in the district. Murders were increased to 39 from 33 in last year, while the cases of culpable homicides increased to four from two in the respective years, the Superintendent of Police added.
