A two-day CME-cum-workshop for training young radiologists in ‘Interventional Onco-radiology’ began at KIMS Hospitals in the city on Friday.

Organised by the hospital in association with the Society of Interventional Oncoradiology (SIO), the event disseminates knowledge among treating physicians regarding newer minimally invasive therapies available in the field.

Interventional radiologists that included Dr Roy Santosham, President SIO; Professor at SRMC Chennai; Dr Suyash Kulkarni , Secretary SIO; Dr Balaji Patel Kola , Consultant Interventional Radiologist, Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad and Dr Ananta Ram, Dr Rupesh Mandava, Consultant Interventional Radiologists, KIMS Hospitals are conducting the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Bhasker Rao, CEO & MD, KIMS Hospitals said, “Besides core healthcare, we have always committed to create these training opportunities.

Interventional radiology in oncology has become a very important in diagnosis and treatment for cancer and cancer-related problems with minimally invasive procedures.

It has in fact become a separate discipline in cancer treatment. It is time to create more visibility among the limited number of interventional radiologists.”

SIO President Dr Roy Santosham said, “This is the first such programme by the SIO in the Telangana and is being conducted and organised by the KIMS Hospitals.

Together we shall conduct many more such programmes in the future for training of the young radiologists to make Interventional Onco therapies more available for the patients.”
