Double for Srinivas

K Srinivas of Indian Oil earned a grand double by winning both men singles and doubles titles in the third VA Sarma and V Indiramba Memorial Senior State Ranking carom tournament, hosted by Anandnagar Welfare Association Sports Academy in their premises here on Saturday.

The International Champion of Champions may have missed the Indian bus, but he managed to bounce back to form after defeating the gritty Md Ahmed in the best of three games.

It was a credible comeback to the top for the fifth seeded Srinivas as he defeated the third seeded opponent with remarkable dexterity.

RD Dinesh Babu took the third place after beating S Aditya at 25-5, 25-14.
Earlier, Srinivas and Basil Philips beat S.Aditya and V Sivananda Reddy in a marathon doubles final before winning at 24-25, 24-17 and 25-15.

Meanwhile, it was a cakewalk for S Appoorwa pver Savitha Devi of Postal. She crowned herself with a lopsided 20-11, 25-9 verdict
Local contender G Madhavi earned the bronze when she prevailed over B Suneetha of DLRL 23-15, 15-13 in the play-off match.

Later, eminent surgeon and Member of Parliament Dr Narsaiah Gowd gave away prizes.

The occasion was graced by Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, corporator, Jaya Suryadevara and Aditya Chavali, President and Secretary of US Carrom Association.

Impressed by the HYCA talents and their overseas exploits, they gifted 25 sets of Green Carrom Boards, which won laurels in the recent US Grand Slam carom championship at Dallas.

A Narasimharao, Organizing Secretary, Suri Venkateswarlu, Vice-President of AWASA and HYCA President BK Haranath graced the occasion.
