Khammam: Congress Deputy Floor Leader in the Council Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy on Monday said that the economy which went off the rails seven weeks ago due to demonetisation is yet to return to normalcy in the country. Reddy who visited the Khammam Agriculture Market Yard here, said that the 50 days period sought by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ease the cash crunch problems is over but the suffering faced by common people and especially farmers remain standstill.

Referring to the market price of the green gram, Reddy urged the government to ensure minimum support price to the produce.

He demanded the market authorities to ensure weighing of groundnut without any delay to protect the interests of the farmers. Reddy further said that farmers have no cash to invest for the Rabi season as they still continue to run to banks only to return homes empty hands. He demanded the government to set up mobile ATMs in market yards exclusively for the benefit of peasants.

He said that the livelihood of labourers and trolley workers depended on the market yards is even more precarious as they have to wait long for their wages. Reddy persuaded the farmers and labourers to raise their issue in the Council to exert pressure on the government.State Minority Cell chairman Md Fazal, TPCC official spokesperson Katla Ranga Rao, Youth Congress State secretary R Manohar Naidu and Youth wing district secretary Raparthi Sharat were among others present.
