Underscoring the need to encourage handlooms by wearing them at least once a week, all the Collectors and majority of the employees in north Telangana districts turned up in handloom clothes giving a thrust to the State Government’s campaign to save the weaving community. Thanks to the Minister for Municipal Administration, KT Rama Rao's call that set the initiative rolling on a mission mode.

Following the call given by the Minister, all the Collectors and the departmental heads in north Telangana region appear to be moving in right direction to promote handlooms.Speaking to The Hans India, Sircilla Collector Krishna Bhaskar, who was dressed in traditional dhoti and shirt on Monday, said: “There is no stopping if a trend to wear handlooms is created. Besides providing assistance to handloom sector from the government side, Minister KTR is also exploring other options to promote the marketing of TESCO products.” He, however, disappointed with some of the officials, who didn’t turn up in handloom clothes totally and expressed hope that they will follow the suit soon. It may be noted here that the government has already ordered procurement of cloth for the Rajiv Vidya Mission’s order to promote handlooms and power looms.

Meanwhile, TESCO stalls have got underway on the premises of Warangal Rural and Karimnagar district administrations.
Collectors of Warangal Urban and Rural, Karimnagar, Sircilla and Peddapally all turned up to Grievance Day programme wearing handloom clothes to set up an example for the other State employees.
