​Hyderabad: Endowment Minister A Indrakaran Reddy assured that the government is keen to develop Lord Sita Ramachandra Swamy temple in Bhadrachalam in a big way and several plans on different aspects of development are under examination.

Responding to the demands by members to develop infrastructure facilities and a theme park, he said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had already announced Rs 100 crore for improvement of the temple and facilities.

Steps have been taken in consultation with the engineers, temple architect and others concerned to develop an action plan out of different proposals which have come up for the development of the temple town.

Besides, the State tourism department had taken up a theme park near Purushothapatnam but the same had gone to Andhra Pradesh after the bifurcation.

Similarly, the temple has about 299 acres of land in Bhadrachalam and Kothagudem areas and about 1,040 acres of lands in Krishna, Guntur, East Godavari, Kurnool and other district of Andhra Pradesh State.

Steps would be taken to ensure that the temple gets good revenues. The minister said that the temple would be developed into a major tourist and pilgrim centre.

Similarly, steps have already been taken to develop other important temples in the State like Vemulawada, Yadadri project, Jogulamaba temple etc.

BJP MLA G Kishan Reddy asked the government to develop an airport between Kothagudem and Bhadrachalam to facilitate pilgrims from different States to visit the temple town.

The TDP asked to constitute a temple committee, CPI (M) demanded the government to prevail upon the Centre to restore the merged mandals with Andhra Pradesh back to Bhadrachalam.

In a brief intervention, Legislative Affairs Minister T Harish Rao said that a decision would be taken on announcing 9th January as a holiday on the occasion of Mukkoti Ekadasi after discussing the same with the Chief Minister.
