Nizamabad: District Collector Dr Yogitha Rana urged the youth to take Louis Braille as a role model and take inspiration from his life. Participating in the 208th birth anniversary celebrations of Braille under the aegis of Sneha society in the town on Wednesday, she said that though Braille lost his eyesight due to an accident, he excelled in education through sheer grit and determination and also invented the Braille script which is immensely useful to the blind, she added.

She said that blindness could not stop him from expressing his creative faculties to the hilt and helped the blind to read and write quickly by developing a system of tactile code. Physical disabilities should not deter students from scaling great heights, she added. She said that Braille was stitching shoes like his father when a nail accidentally got stuck in his eye. Both his eyes were infected and he lost his vision as modern medical facilities were not available in those days. But he was not disheartened by the handicap, she added.

The District Collector garlanded the portrait of Braille and lit a lamp. She cut a cake on the occasion and distributed to the children. She urged the children to lead a contended and happy life. She advised them to keep their desires under control and not cultivate bad habits like smoking and drinking. She said that the government would credit Rs 10,000 in the fixed deposit account of student Jyothi
Old students were falicitated on the occasion. Sneha society secretary Sattaiah, Principal Jyothi and others were present.
