SHE Team organises awareness programme on crimes against women

Sircilla: Superintendent of Police Viswajit Kampati warned that those misbehaving with women and girl students would not be spared.
He inaugurated an awareness programme on ‘Crimes against women’ organised by SHE Team at Vasavi Kalyana Mandapam here on Wednesday and released brochures and wall-posters brought out by the SHE Team. About 5,000 college and school students have participated in the programme.

Addressing the participants, the SP said students and women in particular were being subjected to both physical and mental harassment and eve-teasing. Those from 18 to 60 years were falling victims to indecent behaviour. Once women and students step out of their houses, they are facing harassment from anti-social elements, fellow students, teachers, colleagues in offices, fellow bus passengers and even bus conductors.

The SP advised women and girl students to prove themselves that they are in no way inferior in preventing such problems. The main purpose of SHE Team is to instill confidence among the victims once they receive information about an incident. The team members will mingle with crowds to keep a watch on those resorting to misbehaviour.

Viswajit assured names of complainants would not be revealed and cautioned that hiding of information about instances of misbehaviour will amount to encouraging such persons. Since the launch of SHE Team in the district on November 2, as many as 62 persons have been counselled. Cases were registered against seven and four were punished.

Speaking to The Hans India, he said none should be afraid of using SHE Team. Women and girl students should make use of boxes kept at educational institutions and police stations for solving their other problems.SHE Team counseling member Chakkilla Mahesh Goud explained the legal provisions for protection of women and girl students. Among those present were DSP Sudhakar, CIs Vijay Kumar, Madhavi, SHE Team in-charge SI Srinivas, besides members Goud and Chinnoji Bhaskar.
