A full-scale anti-hijack mock exercise was conducted for the staff of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) recently.The exercise was conducted at the airside of the airport in presence of officials from GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL) and State and Central governments. A bus was used as a dummy hijacked aircraft for it.

The exercise was conducted at the airside of the airport in presence of officials from GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL) and State and Central governments. A bus was used as a dummy hijacked aircraft for it.

Commenting on this exercise, SGK Kishore, CEO, GHIAL said, “We have been conducting all mandatory exercises to ensure that Hyderabad Airport is fully geared up to take up any crisis situation.

We work closely with all government agencies, airlines and other stakeholders to handle any situation at the airport.”

Later, the efficiency of the anti-hijacking contingency plan and operational preparedness were ascertained. As per the plan, critical zones were invoked to address the mock crisis situation.
Rajiv Trivedi, Secretary to the Govt. – Home Department; DCP-Shamshabad; ACP-Shamshabad; Asst. Director, Intelligence Bureau; representatives from Special Bureau, Cyberabad Police, National Security Guard (NSG) Regional Hub, Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF), Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), Airports Authority India (AAI), Air Traffic Control (ATC), SpiceJet, Telangana State Fire Services & Disaster Management, Apollo Hospital, GHIAL (Security & Control, Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting, Terminal Operations, Airside Operations, Airport Operations Control Center, IT, Technical Services), among others were present.
