Warangal: Senior Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao has demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi respond to the corruption allegations made against him by AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi.The Congress leader arrived here on Wednesday evening hours as part of his ‘Praja Chaitanya Rahul Sandesh Yatra’ to garner public support against the demonetisation move by the Centre and to highlight the economic crisis caused by the move. Speaking to press persons at Kazipet, he said Modi’s decision was aimed at benefitting the rich and corporate forces at the cost of crores of middle class, farmers, and poorer sections. The funds accumulated in the banks following the demonetisation would go into the hands of corporate houses but would not help the common men.

False cases were being foisted against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for speaking against demonetisation and the PM, Hanumantha Rao complained. Hitting at CM K Chandrashekar Rao, he said the CM, who spoke against withdrawal of Rs 1000 and Rs 500 currency on the first day, has changed the track after he went to New Delhi to meet the PM Modi. It was wrong to praise the PM while not paying heed to the plight of public.

The Congress party would continue to fight against the Centre’s decision and mobilise public support against the BJP and the TRS governments at centre and in the state in the days to come, he said. The Rahul Sandesh yatra witnessed good response from the public and local Congress cadres, who joined Hanumantha Rao expressing solidarity. The party district president N Rajender Reddy, DCC Bank chairman J Raghava Reddy and others were present. In related development on the day, the city Congress working president Rajanala Srihari held a meeting of Warangal (East) constituency workers. He asked them to take part in large numbers in the protests planned on January 6 at district collectorate against demonetisation.
