Kamareddy: Members of 200 families residing in Bopaspalli Thanda in Nasurullabad mandal of Kamareddy district have returned after migrating to Maharashtra and Karnataka states in search of livelihood. They were forced to migrate to neighbouring states as they could not get yield from their 20-30 acre of land due to officials’ apathy.

The Thanda residents depend on Agricultural Seed Research Centre, which was started in 1957 and spread over 475 acres. Without any activity in the centre, they were forced to take up cutting of sugarcane in Maharashtra and Karnataka.

The centre has now been revived, thanks to the intervention of Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, who represents the Banswada constituency, where the centre is located. He persuaded the department to sanction Rs 2 crore for the centre.

The amount is to be utilised for laying pipelines, besides setting up warehouses and office. There is hope for the Thanda residents as the centre is to increase the workers’ wages and also start its activity.Sudhakar, accounts officer at the centre, told The Hans India that with the sanction of Rs 2 crore, the centre will regain its past glory. Farmers Laxman, Durga Singh and others said they have a ray of hope as the centre is resuming its activities.
