The patient Vijaya, native of Khammam district came to the hospital in her eighth month of her second pregnancy. She was earlier diagnosed with a heart disease after complaints of heavy breathlessness.

Vijaya's case was high-risk due as she had previous history of recurrent abortions. Dr Dakshayani, consultant gynaecologist and obstetrician, took the case and helped in the safe delivery of the baby.

Sharing details of the case on Friday, Dr Dakshayani said, “The patient came for two visits before the delivery. However her family called me on December 31 reporting labour pain and bleeding and I had advised them to get admitted in a hospital there to avoid more risk to the lives of both the mother and the baby.

However, no hospital has taken her case and hence they had to come all the way till here.”

“As I started the C-section, I found that there is complete abruption of placenta. We had to carefully take the baby out and clear the placenta remains from her womb.

The surgery took place on January 1, and the baby was successfully delivered. She had a healthy weight of 2.3 kg,” said the doctor.
“Both the girl and her mother are doing well,” she added.

Dr Pankaj Jariwala, Consultant interventional cardiologist, said, “The patient came to us in 30th week with severe mitral stenosis, a heart condition which is caused due to Rheumatic Fever.

This condition is very risky for pregnant women. There can be heavy bleeding or heart failure leading to death.”
