Warangal: The state level three-day senior inter-district men’s hockey tournament is scheduled be kicked off in the city on Friday.
The event will take place at Vaagdevi College of Physical Education grounds at Bollikunta on the outskirts of the city. The Telangana Hockey president Kotha Amarender Reddy, general secretary

The lack of turf stadiums has been troubling the budding players.

Telangana Hockey has been making efforts to promote the sport at grassroots level and to help players in rural areas to shine at national level. In that connection tournaments were being conducted at district and state level, said Amarender Reddy. So far tournaments were conducted six districts and during the last year summer camps were conducted at 50 places. The tournament in Warangal was being conducted to encourage rural players below 25 years, Mukesh Kumar said.

A blueprint was drawn and all out efforts would be made to tap young talents at grassroots level, they added.Telangana Hockey Warangal chapter president Ch Sudharshan Reddy informed that nearly 180 players from across the state would be taking part in the tournament. The tournament was being conducted with the support of Vaagdevi Group of Institutions.The inaugural ceremony would be attended by Warangal MP P Dayakar, GWMC mayor N Narender and Parkal MLA Ch Dharma Reddy.
