Hanamkonda: Tension prevailed at Congress party’s agitation staged here on Friday dissenting the Centre’s demonetisation move and its alleged negative impact on the lives of the people.Police arrested several leaders of the party and released them later. A massive demonstration was held at Ekasila Park in Hanamkonda. The protest organised by the district Congress committee and city Congress has received good response from the public and party ranks.
After the demonstration, the protesting Congress leaders and activists in a bid to lay siege to the district Collectorate moved towards the Collectorate. However, the police stopped them at Kaloji Centre, where the Congress workers and the police jostled each other.
Police arrested AICC regional coordinator PC Vishnunath, TPCC observer Syed Azmatullah Hussaini, party MLA D Madhava Reddy, district leaders N Rajender Reddy, Rajanala Srihari, Errabelli Swarna, K Srinivasa Rao, EV Srinivasa Rao, DCC Bank Chairman J Raghava Reddy and others and released them later.

Meanwhile, the success of Friday’s agitation seemed have to boosted the morale of the party leaders and ranks in the district. The district Congress chief, in-charges of Warangal (West) and Warangal (East) assembly segments, Narsampet MLA and the DCCB chief have mobilised a good number of workers to take part in the protest.
