Nizamabad: Commissioner of Police Kartikeya said that the district police have set up ‘SAKHI-SHE’ teams at the district, mandal and village levels to protect women from eve teasing, violence, kidnapping and other forms of harassment by men.

Participating in an awareness camp on the district level SAKHI-SHE team here on Tuesday, he said that the main objective of these teams were to protect the women, look after their well-being and resolve their issues.

Commissioner Kartikeya said that the village level SAKHI-SHE would meet on every Friday to take up the problems faced by women and solve them.

He told the women to bring their grievances to the notice of the gender committee members to get them redressed.

The gender committee members, could, take the initiative and meet the women in rural areas to acquaint themselves about their problems and hold counseling sessions for them.

If the grievances could not be redressed by the village committee members, a complaint could be lodged with the police, he added.

The Police Commissioner said that the mandal level SAKHI-SHE committee members could take up the cases registered in the Station House Police and try to resolve them through counseling.

If the complaints failed in the station house office could not be resolved through counseling at the mandal level, they could be sent to the district or divisional levels.

Kartikeya said that if the issues could not be resolved at the divisional level through counseling, they could be sent to the SAKHI-SHE team at the district level.

He said that there would be review meeting on the pending disputes at the RDO’s office by committee members every month to take stock of the situation.

A report would be prepared and sent to the district level, he added.
