Khammam: All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) district president B G Climont demanded the government to solve the problems of contract lecturers of government colleges instead of threatening them. The contract lecturers have been staging protest for the last few days.

While speaking at a meeting held here on Wednesday, Climont said, “The contract lecturers seeking equal pay for equal work as per the Supreme Court order and also Dearness Allowance according to the 10th PRC is a legible demand. Instead of fulfilling the demands, the Deputy Chief Minister is threatening the striking lecturers to call off strike warning of stringent action, which is totally undemocratic,” he alleged.

“The government failed to respond even after several pleas. As a last resort they launched the strike seeking solution to their problems,” he said.

The AITUC leader reminded that the separate statehood for Telangana was also achieved by mass movements, agitations and strikes in which the contract lecturers took part actively.

“If the government remains stubborn and tries to kill the democracy by taking actions on the contract lecturers, we will extend our support and fight for their demands,” he warned.
