Minister for Roads and Buildings Tummala Nageswara Rao has denied allegations of irregularities in the construction of Bhakta Ramadasu Lift Irrigation Project.

Khammam: Minister for Roads and Buildings Tummala Nageswara Rao has denied allegations of irregularities in the construction of Bhakta Ramadasu Lift Irrigation Project.

Inaugurating Rs 38.94 crore Kudumuru and Ramachandrapuram lift irrigation schemes along with Irrigation Development Corporation Chairman Eada Shankar Reddy on Thursday, he said it was not fair to politicise the irrigation projects and come in the way of State government’s initiatives aimed at farmers’ welfare.

Minister’s retort comes in the wake of CPI (M) State secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram’s allegations that Bhakta Ramadasu project was mired in financial irregularities besides a lacuna in the design.

“Right from the construction of Nagarjuna Sagar Project, Telangana has been denied its right share of water. Though water share of Telangana would irrigate 11 lakh acres, the State is able to irrigate only 6 lakh acres through Left Canal,” Tummala said. Never in the last decade, the NSP Left Canal received more than 70 tmcft waters against its rightful share of 132 tmcft, he said.

He said new lift schemes would bring another one-and-a-half-lakh acre under irrigation. Efforts are on to provide irrigation facility to tail end fields under the ayacut of Left Canal, he said, referring to the ongoing canal modernisation works.

MP P Srinivas Reddy said the government was committed for the welfare of the farming community. Shankar Reddy said Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has plans to provide irrigation facility to one crore acres.

TPCC Working president and Madhira MLA Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka termed the new lift schemes as Sankranthi gift to the people in the region. Legislators Puvvada Ajay Kumar, B Laxminarayana and B Madan Lal, ZP Chairperson G Kavitha, Market Committee Chairman RJC Krishna and DCCB Chairman M Vijay Babu were among others present.
