Warangal: In the wake of a change in global or regional climate patterns to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide, environmental protection has become everyone’s duty­, asserted former director of CCMB Hyderabad, Prof Ch Mohan Rao.

‘Government agencies, NGOs, educational institutions should come together to arrest negative changes in the climate. Everyone should remember that he/she is collectively responsible for present day situation and should actively take part to protect the environment,’ he said.

He addressed a gathering at a seminar on ‘Environmental issues and challenges’ at NIT Warangal on Thursday jointly organised by Jana Vignana Vedika (JVV) and Telangana State Academy of Sciences (TSAS), Hyderabad.

As the fields of science and technology witnessing development across the world, the levels of pollution were also increasing enormously in the same pace.

The urgency of the situation should be understood and remedial measures should be taken accordingly, Prof Mohan Rao noted. JVV state president Prof M Adinarayana also said that everyone in the society contributing to environmental degradation knowingly or unknowingly.

Hence all should take the responsibility to protect the environment. Latest technology must be employed to prevent pollution and ensure ‘Green environment’ he added.

NITW Director Prof GRC Reddy suggested that practice was more important than words. Each and every person should be planting and maintaining trees at their surroundings.

He explained the measures he had taken at NIT Goa where he worked as the director to ensure on the campus. New varieties of plants and transplantation of trees which were uprooted from nearby places had taken up.

About 60 percent of transplanted trees have survived added a pleasant look to Goa NIT campus. ‘It is the best achievement for me,’ noted Prof Reddy.

TSAS secretary Prof Katta Narsimha Reddy felt that the protection of environment was possible with day to day guidance and involvement of every one across the world.

INTACH district convener Prof M Panduranga Rao, scientist from IICT K Babu Rao, NITW Prof CSRK Prasad, D Jaya Krishna and Sudharshan Reddy spoke on different topics. Prof K Laxma Reddy informed that about 147 members attended the seminar from across Telangana.

JVV district president D Prabhakara Chary, general secretary V Raju, treasurer P Umamaheswara Rao, members M Ramulu and P Ravikumar, seminar coordinator KB Dharma Prakash were present.
