​Karimnagar: The first International Kite Festival held at Police Parade Grounds in Karimnagar on Wednesday was proved as a huge hit with the participation of large number of people in and around the city along with their kids.

Inaugurating the Kite Festival, Irrigation Development Corporation Chairman Eada Shankar Reddy pointed out that several national and international competitions have been organised in Karimnagar in recent times.

‘Conducting International Kite Festival for the first time in Karimnagar will be the foundation for Smart City tag for Karimnagar,’ he observed.

District Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed said that the district administration is striving hard to get national level recognition for Karimnagar district.

The district administration is making all necessary arrangements for organising Bathukamma festival on a grand scale in Karimnagar that that organised in Hyderabad to get enrolled its name in Guinness World Records, he added.

City Mayor Ravinder Singh said that Karimnagar is shaping out as a Sports District by hosting several national and international level competitions.

People in large numbers are participating in all events organised here irrespective of religions and castes, treating everyone equally focusing only on best performances, he added.

Police Commissioner V B Kamalasan Reddy said that it was great to see that an international event was being organised for the first time in the District.

He advised the people to take part in such events in large number to encourage the organisers to come forward in future to conduct more events of such kind.

Cultural activities performed by the school children organised on the occasion attracted many visitors. More than 30 foreigners participated in the International Kite Festival along with locals from various sections of society.

City Municipal Commissioner Shashank, Deputy Mayor Guggilla Ramesh, Dairy department Chairman Ch Rajeshwar Rao, Tourism Department Additional Director Mahesh and Corporators Jeevitha and Kamaljeet Kaur were present along with others.
