In order to create awareness among young minds about the importance of energy and to dispel misconceptions related to nuclear energy an essay writing competition was organised at Sharda Vidyanilayam on Wednesday as part of a nationwide campaign.

About 174 students participated in the competition and wrote on the topic 'Future of Nuclear Energy Nations Energy’ The event was organised on behalf of Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL).

The first two prizes were awarded to Manasa Soma and Sudarshani Rao both from Class IX.

The school’s Principal Jayalaxmi said that children’s expressions are an indication of their creativity.

“The children portrayed the importance of energy in a creative manner and also showed how the production of electricity from nuclear energy does not harm environment,” she said.

Later, comics based on ‘Budhiya’, a fictional character that motivates villagers to support nuclear power, were distributed among the students.

The character has been created by Amritesh Srivastava, Media Manager, NPCIL, and the initiative has won several awards for its simplicity and effectiveness.

A special three-part animated film on the same character was also screened.
