Nizamabad: District Mahila Congress Committee members sat on a dharna in the town on Thursday protesting against the demonetisation of high valued Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes.

Speaking to the media, district Mahila Congress chief Aruna Tara said that people in the district were facing lot of problems due to non-availability of small change.

People are unable to purchase things with the Rs 2,000 currency note as small traders, shop keepers and vegetable vendors do not have change, she lamented.

Aruna Tara said that the number of Rs 500 and Rs 100 currency notes were very less and demanded the banks to release more such notes to mitigate the hardships of people.

Several ATMs in the towns and villages were without cash, she added. She demanded the enhancement of the weekly withdrawal limit to Rs 50,000 from the present Rs 20,000.
