Manuguru: One of the Asia’s top heavy water plants in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district is all set to celebrate its silver jubilee on January 21.

Officials are making all necessary arrangements to celebrate the plant’s achievements in the last 25 years of its existence. Prof P Rama Rao will inaugurate the celebrations.

The plant, with 1,500 employees, produces 185 tonnes of heavy water utilising the Godavari water. It is also ahead in power generation, producing 48 MW.

After using 36 MW required for its production, the unit contributes 12 MW to the Power Trading Corporation Grid.

General Manager Jitendra Srivatsava told The Hans India that it has been a matter of pleasure that the plant has been ahead in its production, thanks to the efforts of the management and workmen.

He said the unit had so far bagged many awards and won national recognition. Set up in 1982 with an investment of Rs 800 crore, the plant started production in 1992.

It now exports heavy water to South Korea and Vietnam. Heavy water is produced elsewhere in the country in Baroda, Tuticorin, Kota, Talcher and Hazira.
