​Warangal/Jangaon: Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Bhanwar Lal has called upon the youngsters to make use of their voting right to elect right persons for the success of democracy.

He said every person, who crossed the age of 18 years, should enrol his/her name in voters list. Younger generation should play a key role in upholding the democratic tenets by actively taking part in the elections.

The CEO has interacted with students at SVS College of Engineering in the city on Friday, where a programme ‘Empowering young and future voters’ was held on Friday. He answered queries from the students on election rules and regulations.

The government was contemplating to issue citizen cards to every citizen in the country on the lines of Aadhaar cards. Unlike any country in the world, elections in India are being conducted by strictly following election code of conduct, he pointed out.

District Collector Amrapali Kata informed that besides creating awareness among the voters steps were being taken to enrol youngsters, who crossed age of 18 years as voters. Joint Collector S Dayanand, SVS Group of Institutions Chairman E Tirumal Rao and others were present.

At a similar programme at ZPHS Dharmakancha village in Jangaon district, Bhanwar Lal stated that every young voter now enrols his or her name in the electoral list must vote in 2019 elections for the welfare of the nation.

“The right to vote is a constitutional privilege given to all citizens in the country. All the young voters must follow the motto ‘My vote-My government’ and elect an eligible leadership laying foundation for a strong democracy,” he noted.

Students, who were now aged 15 or 16 years, would get voting right by 2019 and they should make use of the opportunity to take part in the elections.

Lot of changes were being taking place in the conduct of elections. Restrictions were imposed on election expenditure and voters should not get lured by money or liquor offered by contestants. ‘Being young voters you should tell this to your parents,’ Bhanwar Lal said.

Jangaon District Collector A Devasena informed that steps would be taken to organise awareness programmes on right to vote in tribal areas. Students were administered an oath to make use of their voting right in the next elections.

Joint Collector J Gopalakrishna Prasad Rao, DRO A Bhagyamma, RDO A Venkat Reddy, Deputy Commissioner of Police T Venkanna, ACP Padmanabha Reddy, DEO S Yadaiah and others were present.
