Karimnagar: Every person should use his/her valuable vote with responsibility to build a strong society, advised District Magistrate Renuka here on Wednesday.

She was the chief guest at the National Voters Day programme held at the Collectorate auditorium.

Speaking on the occasion, she said the Indian Constitution has provided the right to vote to every Indian citizen, who cross 18 years of age and she gave a call to all those, who are eligible, to enrol their names in the voters list.

The society will become better if all citizens cast their vote to the right candidate in every election, who works for public welfare and for the betterment of society, she suggested.

District Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed said that it is the duty and right of every citizen to vote for strengthening the democracy in the country. Every person must inform to at least 20 members about the importance of the value of vote.

National Voters Day was celebrated to bring awareness on the importance of vote and to increase the percentage of voting in the country as it is only 66 per cent in 2014 elections, he added.

To increase the percentage of voting several awareness programmes were being organised in schools and colleges along with conducting various competitions and rallies celebrating the National Voters Day on January 25, he pointed.

Commissioner of Police V B Kamalasan Reddy suggested the officials to bring awareness especially among rural people to enrol their names in the voter list.

There is no barrier of caste, religion and gender for utilising the vote. Any person, who crossed 18 years of age, must and should enrol their names in the voters list and must utilise it save the democracy, he advised.

Later, voter identity cards were given to the new voters along with felicitating the senior citizens, who voted more number of times in the elections and prizes were distributed to students, who won the competitions organised on the occasion of National Voters Day.
